Buzz: Movers and Shakers in the Twin Cities' Art Scene

September 15, 2015

This summer, local and national media prominently featured Bush Fellows and grantees involved in the Twin Cities' arts community.

In a NY Times piece introducing performing arts leaders in Minnesota, Bush Foundation grantees the Guthrie Theater, Jungle Theater, Penumbra Theatre and Mu Performing Arts all shared the spotlight. 2015 Bush Fellow Sarah Bellamy spoke about her developing vision for Penumbra, which she co-directs with her father, Lou Bellamy.

Bellamy was also recognized by Mpls. St.Paul magazine as one of the metro area’s risk-takers in "State of the Arts." The article matched leaders from different art practices and shared the conversations that occurred. Bush Fellows Ranee and Apama Ramaswamy, the mother-daughter directing team of Ragamala Dance Company, juxtaposed their perspective on dance with another art-scene leader’s perspective on live music. Also featured is a conversation between Randy Reyes, artistic director of Mu Performing Arts and Nina Archabal, general director of the Minnesota Opera and wife of former Bush Foundation staff member John Archabal.

Other Bush Fellows and grantees featured include Philip Brunelle, Laura Zabel, Jungle Theater, the Minnesota Museum of American Art, Penumbra Theatre and Springboard for the Arts.

The Ragamala Dance Company and the Ramaswamy family also received high praise in a NY Times dance review, which published around the same time as an in-depth profile by the Huffington Post.
